Born in Hong Kong, my family relocated to Ontario, Canada in 1996. Until recently, I would resent my cultural roots, distancing myself in hopes of assimilating into Western culture. The depicted broken vessel, a late Ming to early Qing dynasty Anping Jar uncovered from the wreckage of a European trade ship, reflects how I now see myself in my journey of cultural rediscovery while emphasizing my evolving perception of self and the profound, intangible connection to ancestral and cultural heritage within our bodies.
